BSNL boosts mobile connectivity in rural Kollam
The Hindu Bureau · 2026-05-31 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

As part of efforts to eliminate network dead zones, the BSNL has deployed advanced technology to significantly expand mobile coverage across the rural parts of Kollam Lok Sabha constituency, N.K. Premachandran MP has said. The initiative specifically targets remote pockets that previously lacked reliable connectivity, aiming to foster economic growth and social development in these underserved communities. Under this comprehensive project, 18 new telecom towers have already been installed and successfully commissioned to deliver high-speed 4G network coverage.

The newly activated 4G towers are located across several key rural and remote areas, including Cherukara, Kocharippa, Vanchiyodu, Peruvazhikkala, Achencoil ST Colony, Plamoodu-Vellimon, Rajachola, Panayam-Eroor, Eyyakkodu-Kadakkal, Rajakoop-Rosmala, Priya Estate-Aryankavu, Karayalanmerth, Thenmala Dam, Aduthala, Ashtamudi, Kelankavu, Kumbhavurutty and Moonnumukku. This widespread deployment is expected to bridge the digital divide for thousands of residents who have struggled with connectivity issues for years.

“Furthermore, preparatory work is already underway to set up towers in two additional locations in Mampazhathara and Kuravanthavalam. Construction at these sites will be completed in a time-bound manner as soon as the State government authorities formally hand over the required land. This entire rural network expansion drive is being executed by including it under the Digital Bharat Nidhi project of the Telecommunications department,” said the MP.
