Three bronze idols have been reported stolen from Sri Neelakandeswarar Temple at Periya Iluppaipattu village near Manalmedu in Mayiladuthurai district.
The temple comes under the control of Thiruvadhuthurai Adheenam.
Police sources said the temple priest locked the shrine on Sunday night. On Monday morning, the lock of the temple gate was found broken. The burglars had apparently cut the grill gate in one of the places inside the temple where several metal idols were kept.
They stole two bronze idols of Amman and one idol of Chandikeswarar and escaped from the spot. On information, local police inspected the temple and conducted inquiry. The Manalmedu police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused involved in the crime.
