The University Grants Commission (Institutions Deemed to be Universities) Amendment Regulations 2026, notified on April 21, marked a shift towards restoring the role of State governments in the governance and oversight of deemed-to-be universities, said Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE).
“TGCHE appreciates the UGC for considering the concerns raised by the State government for incorporating provisions that restore institutional balance and accountability,” it stated in a release on Friday.
