A high-level delegation from Andhra Pradesh led by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana studied advanced waste management systems and sustainable urban practices in Selangor, Malaysia for their possible adoption in Amaravati and other urban centres in the State.

The delegation, on Thursday, examined Selangor's institutional framework for solid waste management, including scientific waste processing, public cleansing, resource recovery and waste-to-energy initiatives. The two-day visit is part of the State government's efforts to benchmark urban development practices against successful international models.

The team, which includes MA&UD Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar and Vivekanand Thangamuthu Selvaraj, First Secretary for Commerce and Education at the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, held discussions with Selangor parliamentarian Ganabatirau and State EXCO Minister Papparaidu.

Officials of KDEB Waste Management Sdn. Bhd., Selangor's nodal waste management agency, briefed the A.P. delegation on technology-enabled waste collection, transportation, monitoring systems and community participation.

The Andhra Pradesh team also visited field facilities and is scheduled to inspect specialised bio-medical, industrial and poultry waste treatment centres, besides the waste-to-energy facility at Jeram Sanitary Landfill.

Mr. Narayana said the government aims to build clean, sustainable and globally competitive cities under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The State will assess the applicability of Malaysia's best practices to strengthen municipal solid waste management, landfill remediation and waste-to-energy projects in Andhra Pradesh, he added.
