The retail outlet of the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, Poompuhar, has organised a painting exhibition in Coimbatore till the end of June, exhibiting several original works.
T. Malathi, Manager of the outlet in Coimbatore, said original Thanjavur painting works of artists from Chennai, Madurai, and Tiruchi, and paintings by Kurumba tribal people are on display. “The tribal people residing near Kotagiri have painted using Vengai Paal Pottu and natural colours. Their works are exhibited at the Poompuhar outlet in Coimbatore,” she said.
With a sales target of ₹8 lakh from the event, Poompuhar has three major sellers who have displayed Kalamkari paintings on various medium, Thanjavur paintings, and regular painting works that are on display througout the year at the outlet. The paintings are in various price ranges and sizes and this is a special expo this year, she said.
Works have tribal people who were trained in pottery are also on display at the Poompuhar showroom here.
