Unwillingness on the part of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to pay the compensation awarded for land acquired to construct a wayside rest area for drivers at Hosadu has resulted in truck drivers continuing to park vehicles on the Maravanthe-Trasi beach stretch on the Goa Border-Kundapura section of Panvel-Kanyakumari National Highway 66.

Had the authority constructed such a facility at Hosadu, about 2 km from Trasi beach and abutting the Karwar-Kundapura carriageway, the gravity of the April 29 accident where a tourist bus ferrying students rammed two trucks parked on the wayside killing three of its occupants, could have been lesser, felt K. Venkatesh Kini, an entrepreneur and social worker from nearby Bydnoor. It is a common sight to witness trucks and other vehicles parked on both the sides of 4-lane NH 66 on the beautiful Trasi-Maravanthe beach stretch in Udupi district.
