An 83-year-old farmer, identified as Korra Sethya, a resident of Madanapally Kotha Thanda, drowned in a pond in Shamshabad on Friday (May 15) morning.
According to the police, Sethya had returned home on Wednesday night after attending to agricultural work at Shaneshwara temple in the village. However, when family members woke up on Thursday morning, he was missing from the house.
Initially, the family believed he may have gone to the temple as part of his routine, but he did not return home.
Police said the body was discovered on Friday morning at around 8.30 a.m. near Nalla Cheruvu, a pond situated close to the family’s agricultural field. A relative of the deceased, who was on his way to the fields, noticed a crowd near the pond and later identified the body. Family members rushed to the spot and confirmed the identity of the deceased. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s wife, the police registered a case of suspicious death.
According to the complaint, Sethya had a habit of consuming alcohol and the family suspects he may have accidentally slipped into the pond while under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation is underway.
