Unable to find 310 engineers who worked with the erstwhile Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike when the fake billing scam surfaced, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has issued a public notice asking them to collect official notices in person and respond within 15 days.
The engineers had served in the BBMP’s engineering wing in Gandhinagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeshwari Nagar (RR Nagar) zones between 2008-09 and 2011-12, when civic works in the three zones later came under scrutiny over allegations that fake or inflated bills had been cleared for works that were either not fully executed or showed discrepancies on the ground.
Authorities said notices sent to them could not be served as their addresses were not traceable. Officials said many of them had been on deputation at the time and were later transferred to other departments, making it difficult to locate them now.
During the mentioned years, engineers had signed measurement bills, quality control reports and third-party audit documents that enabled the release of ₹118.26 crore to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), which had been entrusted with carrying out the works. The irregularities were examined by a committee headed by retired judge H.N. Nagamohan Das, which later recommended action against officials linked to the projects.
