The India Chapter of the World Orthopaedic Concern (WOC), in association with Apollo Hospitals, conducted the 2nd Annual Congress WOC India – Chennai Sports Injury Conclave 2026 here on Sunday.
The academic conference brought together over 250 orthopaedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, clinicians, and healthcare professionals from across the country to discuss the latest developments in sports injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, and emerging innovations.
At a press conference, Organising Chairman Navaladi Shankar, Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, said many injuries occur due to inadequate training, improper techniques, and overuse, and stressed the need for awareness on injury prevention and management as more people participate in fitness activities.
The conclave featured a scientific programme led by 35 distinguished national and international faculty members. Experts shared their knowledge through scientific sessions, panel discussions, and interactive workshops. to provide participants with insights into current trends and advancements in sports medicine.
Arindam Banerjee, president of WOC International and WOC India, said, “We serve as a bridge between countries that possess advanced orthopaedic resources and those that lack adequate healthcare infrastructure. In the past, India itself benefited greatly from WOC’s support. Today, I am proud to say that India has become a net contributor rather than a recipient.”
S. Saseendar, vice-president of WOC India; Samundeeswari S., Joint Secretary of WOC India; and Alberto Gregori, consultant orthopedic surgeon from the U.K., were present. Doctors said that the WOC India also plans to focus on injuries due to native sports such as kabaddi, kalaripayattu.
