Two Odisha migrants were arrested by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force and the Nadakkavu police on Thursday (June 18, 2026) after they were found in possession of 4.24 kg of ganja at the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus station on the Mavoor road in Kozhikode city.
The accused, identified as Nithin Digal and Sashank Singh, had allegedly transported the contraband from Odisha by train to Perumbavoor and later travelled to Kozhikode, before they were intercepted by the police.
The seizure comes amid Operation Toofan, under which the Kozhikode City Police booked 344 persons and registered 339 cases.
According to official data, the City Police seized 962.02 grams of ganja and 247.07 grams of MDMA between June 1 and 17. The operation also led to the discovery of 4.32 grams of hashish oil, 0.18 grams of brown sugar, and two ganja plants. A total of 293 ganja beedis were also seized.
Most of the cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Of the total cases, 33 involved small quantities of narcotic substances, five involved intermediate quantities, and two involved commercial quantities.
The largest MDMA seizure during the period was recorded on June 13, when police confiscated 194.6 grams of the synthetic drug. The highest quantity of ganja seized on a single day was 645.22 grams on June 11.
Police registered the highest number of cases on June 7, with 31 cases being booked. Twenty-nine cases were also registered on both June 3 and June 4.
