1. Hundreds of farmers join ‘Bairamangala Chalo’ rally against Bidadi Township Project

Hundreds of farmers from more than five districts gathered at BGS Circle in Bidadi on June 22, 2026, to commence a bike rally to Bairamangala called by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) in support of farmers protesting against the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township, popularly known as the Bidadi Township project.

This marks the first large-scale farmers’ agitation, although local farmers have been protesting at a designated place in Bairamangala village for over 460 days. The bike rally was called by the KRRS, headed by farmers’ leader Badagalapura Nagendra, and supported by Melukote MLA Darshan Puttannaiah.

2. Uttara Kannada man dies of H1N1 in Mangaluru

A 41-year-old man from Uttara Kannada district has succumbed to H1N1 swine flu infection at a private hospital in Mangaluru on June 21, 2026. The man, a farm labourer from Yallapur taluk in Uttara Kannada district, was suffering from fever and had got himself treated at a private clinic.

Owing to further complications, he was admitted to a private hospital in Sirsi on June 17. However, as he subsequently developed breathing complications, he was taken to Mangaluru and admitted to a private hospital for further treatment where he was found infected with H1N1 virus, according to Yallapur taluk health officer Dr. Narendra Pawar.

3. Akashvani broadcasts ‘yoga anthem’ written by Shivamogga Central Prison inmate

A special yoga-related song written and sung by Chandra Hemmadi, an inmate of Shivamogga Central Prison, was broadcast by Akashvani Bhadravati on June 21 as part of the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations. Created under the guidance of prison authorities, the song highlights the importance of yoga and meditation for physical health, mental peace, and spiritual well-being.

Chandra was a journalist in a leading Kannada newspaper in Udupi. He has been named in seven cases. Sources said that he took on the sand mafia, and was sentenced in one of the cases. Though he has secured bail, he has not been able to come out of prison since three months due to non-availability of surety for the bail.

4. Bengaluru woman conned into opening mule accounts after being duped of ₹7 lakh with promise of online work

A 21-year-old private firm employee was allegedly lured into opening multiple bank accounts for cybercrime transactions by three men from Uttar Pradesh who had reportedly taken nearly ₹7 lakh from her by promising online work. According to a complaint, the woman said she came across an online link about two years ago while browsing social media.

After clicking on it, she was contacted by unknown persons who promised to provide her with an online account and work opportunities. They allegedly collected around ₹7 lakh from her through online transfer to various bank accounts as processing fees and other charges.
