Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming education, stating that the “future of Telangana is in the classrooms” while addressing students at the State event marking reopening of schools and distribution of Young India Student Kits.

Emphasising that the State was formed after a six-decade-long struggle and the sacrifices of hundreds of young people, he said education would be the foundation for building a prosperous Telangana. Allocation of 8.5% of the State budget for education is not an expenditure but an investment in future generations, he stressed.

The mega event at LB Stadium saw students from various Gurukulas, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and several ministers and heads of school and education departments in attendance.

The Governor administered an anti-drug pledge to the students on the occasion. Calling the students assets of the present and the future, Mr. Shukla called for a concerted effort to fight against substance abuse, and lauded the State government’s kits for students. He later launched the Anna Akka mentorship — AI & digital learning programme.

Initiatives such as digital governance, improved student amenities, performances of students, and reforms in mid-day meal programme, including centralised kitchen services as that offered by Hare Krishna Charities, among others were shown vibrantly through stalls. The Young India Student Kits for residential students include up to 22 items and fewer items for day scholar students, they included books, uniforms and other educational material for students.

In his speech, Mr. Reddy criticised the previous Bharata Rashtra Samithi administration and said that education was neglected for 10 years, leading to the decline of government schools and the overall education system. However, with Congress government in power since December 2024, he noted that his government increased diet and cosmetic charges in welfare institutions and has taken direct responsibility to restore quality education for poor and marginalised students.

He informed that the government is renovating public schools, introducing pre-primary education, and developing institutions capable of competing with private schools. He cited the success of certain model public schools, where demand has become so high that admissions have had to be restricted.

Further, the State was pushing for major skill development initiatives, to tide the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence, including teaching languges such as German and Japanese. The aim, he said, is to make Telangana both an education hub and a sports hub, while also encouraging students to become future doctors, civil servants, leaders, and nation-builders.
