The Congress on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) renewed its attack on the BJP government in Arunachal Pradesh, alleging that the party was disregarding the Supreme Court’s directions by allowing Chief Minister Pema Khandu to continue in office despite an ongoing court-ordered inquiry.

In a post on X, general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said the BJP had “decided to brazen it out” in Arunachal Pradesh even after the Supreme Court ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into decisions taken by the Chief Minister. 

He contended that Mr. Khandu continued to hold the Public Works Department portfolio and therefore retained control over files that would be required for the probe.

“All principles and norms have been abandoned. This is an insult to the Supreme Court, to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, and to the Constitution of India,” Mr. Ramesh said.

On May 19, the Congress leader had posted, referring to an April 6 order of a three-judge Bench of the Supreme Court directing the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry into allegations that contracts worth ₹1,270 crore had been awarded to members of the Chief Minister’s family between January 2015 and December 2025, creating a conflict of interest.

Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the issue, Mr. Ramesh had then sought Mr. Khandu’s resignation pending the inquiry.
