Former GHMC mayor Gadwal Vijaylaxmi was appointed Telangana Women’s Commission chairperson, along with six members. In an order issued on Monday by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, she will head the commission for a five-year term from the date of assuming office. Along with the chairperson, the government has also nominated six members to the commission and they include Kasoju Sankaramma, Chityala Swetha, Shashikala Yadava Reddy, Sada Laxmi, N. Radha Bai, and Ujma Ashai Shakira.

Kasoju Shankaramma is the mother of Srikantha Chary, who died in 2009 by immolating himself in support of a separate Telangana.
