The police organised a district-wide crackdown on drug abuse and illicit liquor activities on Sunday through a cordon-and-search operation under the “Dhairya Sparsha – Operation Flush Out” initiative.
Special police parties undertook extensive searches at 28 locations targeting rowdy sheeters, suspected offenders, and individuals with a history of involvement in ganja-related cases across Chittoor district.
During the operation, authorities used advanced drug detection kits to screen 60 persons. Three individuals, including two from N.R. Peta and one from Thavanampalle, tested positive for drug consumption. Officials said those identified were counselled and sensitised about the health and social consequences of substance abuse.
Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi said the drive largely focused on curbing illicit liquor manufacturing. “The police teams destroyed 1,200 litres of fermented jaggery wash used for brewing country liquor in Karvetinagaram and Vijayapuram mandals, besides another 300 litres in Panjani mandal,” the SP said.
The cordon-and-search operation led to the seizure of illegally stored liquor and ID arrack from multiple locations across the district. Two motorcycles without valid documents were also seized under the Yadamari police station limits. The police registered a total of 15 cases during the operation. “We are committed to making Chittoor a drug-free and safer district through sustained enforcement and public cooperation,” Mr. Tushar Dudi said.
