The weekly grievances redress meeting chaired by the District Collector resumed at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday (May 11, 2026) after remaining suspended since the Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 15 for the election process. More than 200 petitions were received from members of the public.

Farmers from Ermunai Ilaingar Ani submitted petitions seeking enhanced compensation for crop damage caused by recent rain and strong winds. They said banana, coconut, arecanut and other crops had suffered extensive damage in several parts of the district, affecting the livelihood of cultivators. The petitioners claimed the compensation announced for damaged banana crops was inadequate and urged the administration to provide relief based on actual losses suffered by farmers. They also sought compensation for individual damaged trees and crops irrespective of the extent of loss in a field.

Members of the Hindu Munnani submitted a petition alleging irregularities in the construction of a CSI building in Ganapathy. They claimed that the building had been constructed on a disputed site despite a case pending before the court and alleged that permissions had been obtained by suppressing facts.

A group of shareholders and members of the Thudiyalur Cooperative Agricultural Service Society submitted a petition seeking action against an official of the institution. The petition alleged that lower-level staff, daily wage workers and contract workers were being forced to carry out domestic work and personal duties at the official’s residence. The petitioners sought an inquiry into the allegations and demanded action under relevant service and cooperative laws.
