Minister for Agriculture T. Siddique has promised farmers in Nadapuram, Kavilumpara and Maruthonkara grama panchayats that the departments of Local Self-Governments and Agriculture will take steps to replant crops that were damaged in the recent heavy rains.

He said this after visiting these places and holding a meeting with people’s representatives and farmers’ leaders on Wednesday (May 27, 2026). The Minister also said that the affected farmers would be provided with financial help. Mr. Siddique instructed officials to prepare a plan for the purpose by using funds from various departments.

The deadline for farmers to apply for compensation for crop loss had been extended by 10 days in view of network connectivity issues. Crops such as rubber, pepper, arecanut, coconut, clove, castor, cocoa, and cashew would be included in the Restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme.

The Minister also sought a report on increasing the compensation amount for these crops provided under the natural disaster relief scheme. Mr. Siddique instructed officials to submit a proposal to increase the compensation amount for nutmeg and clove to ₹5,000 under the crop insurance scheme.
