Amid rising concerns over fresh proposals to fell trees for infrastructure works, Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B. Khandre on Wednesday (May 6, 2026) visited the site of the proposed flyover on NH-275 near Siddiqui Nagar and the Manipal Hospital junction in Mysuru to assess the ground situation.
According to Forest Department officials, an estimated 347 trees, including those along the medians of Bannimantap Road, Nanjangud Road, Fountain Road and Hunsur Road, as well as several on either side, are likely to be affected by the project.
The trees identified include species such as Indian rose wood, rain tree, honge, Akasha mallige, mahogany, mango and neem, among others. Officials said these may have to be removed to facilitate the flyover construction.
The Minister directed officials to conduct a detailed assessment to determine how many trees can be retained and whether certain species, particularly large trees like Beete (rose wood), can be transplanted.
He also instructed them to submit a comprehensive report at the earliest.
Deputy Conservator of Forests Paramesh and Social Forestry Division DCF Shankaregowda, along with other officials, were present during the inspection.
