Residents of villages near the forest fringe areas at Athani in have been advised to remain cautious following reports of leopard movement in the region.
According to Forest Department officials, farmer Gowtham of Kulathukadu village alerted the department after spotting a leopard in his agricultural field two days ago. Officials visited the spot and examined the pugmarks found in the area. The footprints were confirmed to be that of a leopard. Forest personnel later carried out awareness campaigns in localities including Anna Nagar, Kakkachi Kuttai, Sembulichampalayam, and Amma Nagar, advising residents to ensure the safety of themselves and their livestock.
A cage has been placed in the area to capture the animal and cameras have been installed to monitor its movement. Forest staff are also engaged in intensified patrolling operations, officials said.
