In a mysterious case, a young woman aged 25-years was allegedly found dead in a well at Nadusoorangudi near Sattur in Virudhunagar district on Monday.
Police said on Tuesday that Mariswari (25) wife of Sethu worked as a daily wager in a private fireworks unit here. Her husband was working in Chennai and they have two children - Maharaja (4) and Sivapriya (2).
It is said that on Monday, she had left her son with her relative’s house and gone to work with her little daughter as usual.
After lunch, Mariswari was not to be seen in the work place, investigations revealed and that the Elayirampannai police were informed.
Police conducted inquiries and after they had a needle of suspicion, the fire and rescue service personnel arrived at the spot.
After a long search, the team found a body in a well situated near the Pandian fireworks unit. The police sent the body for post-mortem to the Government Hospital.
As the girl child was not seen anywhere in the vicinity, the police launched a manhunt. It was not clear about the fate of the child and discreet probe was underway, police said.
A senior officer said that whether the death of Mariswari was a case of murder or the victim had any issues and had died by suicide would be known only after the post-mortem was performed.
The mysterious death of a daily wage earner sent shock waves in the habitation and uneasy calm prevailed as the girl child was also missing.
