A Sub-Inspector posted at Bodhan Town Police Station in Nizamabad district was arrested while accepting a bribe of ₹7,000, in a trap laid by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday.
The accused officer, identified as Chitannoju Bhaskara Chari, had initially demanded ₹10,000 from a complainant to avoid implicating the complainant’s relative in a criminal case. The amount was later reduced to ₹7,000 following the complainant’s request.
The ACB officials conducted the operation at the police station and apprehended the officer when he accepted the bribe. The tainted cash was recovered from his possession.
The identity of the complainant has been withheld for security reasons.
Following the arrest, the accused will be produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases in Nampally, Hyderabad. The case is currently under investigation.
Meanwhile, the ACB appealed to people to report any instance of bribery by public servants through its toll-free helpline 1064 or via its official communication channels, assuring confidentiality for complainants.
