The Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), Chennai Chapter, observed World Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Day with an awareness event in Chennai on Thursday evening. The programme aimed to promote early diagnosis and greater public understanding of multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic neurological condition affecting the central nervous system. The awareness drive was organised in connection with World Multiple Sclerosis Day, observed globally on May 30 every year.

The event was attended by M. Lakshmi IAS, Commissioner, Department for Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, and Nithyanandam A., Head of Neurology, Omandurar Multi Speciality Hospital, as chief guests. Adhilakshmi Logamurthy, Senior Advocate at the Madras High Court and social activist, participated as the special invitee.

As part of the awareness drive, MSSI organised an activity titled “Walk in My Shoes”, designed to help the public understand some of the physical and emotional challenges faced by persons living with MS. Organisers said the initiative sought to encourage empathy and improve awareness about the importance of timely medical intervention and support systems.

Members of the public, caregivers and volunteers took part in the programme. Representatives of MSSI Chennai Chapter reiterated the need for increased awareness and access to support for persons affected by multiple sclerosis.
