Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed Rasipuram and its surrounding areas on Sunday (May 24, 2026) evening, leading to rainwater stagnation on the Government Hospital campus and causing concern among patients and attendants.
The rain, which began around 6.30 p.m. and continued for over an hour, resulted in waterlogging at several places within the hospital premises. Rainwater entered the women’s ward, following which hospital authorities shifted patients from the inpatient and maternity wards to alternative rooms using wheelchairs as a precautionary measure. Pregnant women and mothers admitted to the hospital were also shifted to safer wards. The stagnant rainwater was drained out from the campus later in the night.
Residents and patients said rainwater stagnation inside the Government Hospital premises had become a recurring issue during the monsoon season and urged the district administration to take permanent measures to prevent flooding on the campus.
