The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has ordered an injunction restraining Madurai Corporation from installing any further amusement equipment at Vandiyur park in K.K. Nagar, Madurai, without the specific leave of the court.
A Division Bench of Justices R. Suresh Kumar and P. Vadamalai said for the purpose of development of the park, the existing trees or vegetation should not be cut.
The court directed the Corporation to forthwith close down the commercial activities that have been entrusted to private people in the rooms or buildings constructed on the banks of the Vandiyur lake. The court also restrained the Corporation from collecting any fee from the visitors for walking, sitting in the park and children playing in the limited area.
