The State Cabinet will have to be constituted afresh in the wake of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation, said former Minister Tanveer Sait.

Fielding queries on the much-talked-about Cabinet reshuffle, Mr. Sait said a fresh Cabinet will have to be constituted now. If the head of the State government, the Chief Minister, is replaced, a new Cabinet will have to be constituted under the new Chief Minister, he said.

In view of the anticipation of a large number of people for Cabinet berths, Mr. Sait hoped the new Cabinet would accommodate at least three persons from minority groups.

Mr. Sait, who had not made it to the Cabinet during the ensuing term, had earlier made it clear that he too was an aspirant for a ministerial berth.

Speaking about the opposition to Mr Siddaramaiah’s resignation as Chief Minister, Mr. Sait said all partymen should respect the leadership’s decision.

He said the Congress party had given him the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister of the State for eight years, surpassing the tenure of former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs. Also, the power is not permanent for anybody, he remarked.

Mr. Sait said the reported power-sharing arrangement between Congress leaders in the State had not been discussed with anybody.

However, the party has now asked Mr. Siddaramaiah to step down and make room for another leader. The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting likely scheduled for Friday will choose its leader, who will become the next Chief Minister, he said.
