The Government Higher Secondary School for Blind Girls at Puthur has achieved cent percent pass in the State Board Class XII examinations, continuing its good academic performance for the past few years.

The school, one of the three institutions functioning in the State for visually impaired students, saw all 16 students who appeared for the examinations clear them.

As a residential school catering to students from Classes I to XII, the institution attracts students from various parts of the State. The school provides training in the use of computers, Braille, and audio recorders, which are supplied by the government to support learning.

“The students were given extensive coaching and, apart from academics, they are also encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as yoga and karate,” the school head said.

R. Nandhini from Virudhunagar emerged as the school topper by scoring 547 out of 600 marks. N. Divya from Pudukottai secured the second position with 509 marks, while M. Devadharshini, also from Pudukottai, secured the third place with 507 marks.

Meanwhile, the Tiruchi City Corporation’s only higher secondary school on East Boulevard Road also recorded a 100% pass result in the Class XII examinations. All 19 students, comprising 10 boys and nine girls, who appeared for the examinations from the Corporation Higher Secondary School have come out with flying colours.

Most students enrolled in the school were from underprivileged sections, whose parents were daily wagers or conservancy workers in the city, a teacher said.
