A total of 9,903 electors in Coimbatore district will cast their votes using postal ballot for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. To facilitate home voting, 168 teams, each comprising five officials, including a videographer, have been formed under the supervision of polling officers and micro observers.
The district has 10 Assembly constituencies, with 183 candidates in the fray. Ballot sheets carrying the names, photographs and symbols of candidates have been printed.
Home voting will be conducted on April 12, 13 and 14, during which polling teams will visit the residences of senior citizens aged above 85 years and persons with disabilities (PwDs) who have submitted Form 12D.
According to officials, the district has 20,566 senior citizens aged above 85 years and 15,420 PwDs. Of them, over 7,500 senior citizens and more than 1,600 PwDs have opted for the home voting facility.
Officials said over 18,000 electors, including essential service staff, polling officials, police personnel and election staff from within and outside the district, have also opted for postal voting. Their voting process will be conducted from April 15 onwards.
Ballot papers have been distributed through returning officers. Voters have been advised to carefully record their vote, seal the cover to maintain secrecy and hand it over to the authorised teams.
Postal ballots will be counted along with the votes recorded in electronic voting machines on the day of counting (May 4, 2026), officials added.
