A 40-year-old woman was found dead in a sugarcane field at Melapatti near Kulithalai on Tuesday. She was identified as Sivaranjani, wife of Suresh, of the same village.
According to sources, she was found strangled and stabbed to death with her hands and feet tied. She was staying alone in her house as her husband and a 23-year-old son were employed in Tiruchi and Bengaluru respectively.
On information, the Kulithalai police rushed to the spot and removed the body of the victim to the Government Hospital for post-mortem. Forensic experts and a sniffer dog were also pressed into service. The Kulithalai police have registered a case and are investigating.
