The rise of Satheesan

V.D. Satheesan has emerged as the unquestionable leader of Kerala. He has proved that he is no longer dependent on the Congress; it is the Congress that is dependent on him. In the immediate term, this will mean that Congress MLAs and Ministers will have little consequence or influence.

Satheesan defends IUML; terms it a deterrent against communal forces

Kerala CM-designate V.D. Satheesan on Friday (May 15, 2026) defended Congress ally and the UDF partner Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), saying it played a decisive role in the alliance victory and was also a major deterrent against communal forces in the State.

The Congress leader said that anyone accusing the IUML of being communal was trying to create a divide in Kerala. The League was one of the major backers of Mr. Satheesan for the post of Chief Miniter and has faced considerable flak from various quarters over it.

The CM-designate also accused the BJP, which has been attacking the IUML and accusing it of interfering in the Chief Minister selection process, of spreading hatred and divisiveness at the national and State level. - PTI

V.D. Satheesan says Keralam has reaffirmed its secular identity through election verdict

Keralam Chief Minister-designate V.D. Satheesan on Friday (May 15, 2026) said the people of Kerala have sent a strong message in favour of secularism through the Assembly election verdict and asserted that attempts to spread hatred in the State would not succeed.

Addressing reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Satheesan said, “Some people are trying to start the hate campaign in Kerala. This is secular Kerala. The result of this election is a declaration of Kerala people to the entire country that our state is secular. We will keep it that way.”

Responding to criticism from the BJP’s Kerala unit, he said the ideological battle between the Congress and the BJP revolves around preserving secular values. “They are always trying to make hate campaigns. That is their job. Our job is to keep the secular credentials. That is the ideological fight between BJP and Congress,” he said.
