The Ambattur Industrial Estate police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl after entering her house by posing as an employee of the Electricity Department to attend to a fault.
According to a complaint lodged with the poice, the incident happened on May 20, when the nine-year-old girl was alone at her home. Police said the man, posing as an Electricity Department employee, barged into the house.
Silver anklets snatched
After sexually harassing the child, the man snatched her silver anklets and fled the spot. Her parents lodged a complaint with the Ambattur Industrial Estate police.
The police identified the man as Balaji of Tondiarpet after checking CCTV camera footage. They traced the man to Red Hills and apprehended him.
The police also recovered the anklets and a bike that was used during the crime. Balaji was booked under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was remanded in judicial custody. The police said he was involved in a series of robberies.
