The Auroville Foundation has signed an agreement with NLC India Limited to promote sustainable electric mobility inside Auroville.
As part of the agreement, NLCIL will provide financial assistance of ₹21.4 lakh to the Foundation for the procurement of four electric vehicles. The vehicles would be procured through the Government e-Market (GeM) Portal within the next 45 days, a release here said.
The vehicles will be deployed for essential services, including for providing transport assistance to elderly people visiting Matrimandir, by the Auroville Town Development Council. The agreement was signed in the presence of Chairman and Managing Director of NLCIL Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, Director, Human Resources, NLCIL Samir Swarup and Officer on Special Duty, Auroville Foundation G. Seetharaman, the release said.
The NLCIL decided to provide financial assistance for the purchase of vehicles after assessing the positive environmental impact the operation of electric vehicles would create inside the campus. The latest agreement marked the second major CSR collaboration between Auroville and NLCIL. Earlier, the NLCIL had contributed around ₹1 crore towards road infrastructure development inside Auroville, the release said.
