A juvenile male elephant that made its way into the heart of Udhagamandalam town on Monday is being monitored by the Forest Department, even as they attempt to “guide” the animal safely down the slopes towards Coonoor.
The elephant, believed to be the same individual that had made its way to Doddabetta Peak a few weeks ago leading to its closure, had been driven towards Coonoor by the Forest Department. However, the animal managed to make its way back up to the higher elevations of Udhagamandalam, where it has alleged to have raided crops in agricultural areas surrounding town.
