A special enforcement drive conducted by the Malkajgiri Traffic Police against vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass or black films, and those using unauthorised sirens and multi-toned horns, resulted in the booking of 542 cases and collection of ₹4.34 lakh in fines on June 15.

According to the traffic police, 359 cases were registered against vehicles using tinted glass or black films, with penalties amounting to ₹2.51 lakh. In addition, 174 cases were booked for the use of unauthorised multi-toned horns or air horns, attracting fines of ₹1.74 lakh. Nine cases involving unauthorised sirens were also detected, leading to penalties of ₹9,000.

The highest number of violations was recorded at Trimulgherry traffic police station, where 88 cases were booked and ₹69,100 collected in fines. Uppal traffic police station also recorded 88 cases, with penalties amounting to ₹80,200, the highest fine collection among all traffic police stations covered during the drive.

In Zone I, comprising Malkajgiri, Gopalapuram, Jawaharnagar, Trimulgherry, Alwal and Begumpet traffic police stations, officials booked 318 cases and imposed fines totalling ₹2.48 lakh. Zone II, which includes LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Uppal, Kushaiguda and Ghatkesar traffic police stations, accounted for 224 cases and ₹1.85 lakh in penalties.

Traffic police said special enforcement teams were deployed at major junctions, commercial centres and busy traffic corridors to identify and act against violations.

Officials said unauthorised black films and heavily tinted glasses obstruct visibility, hamper surveillance and enforcement activities, and violate transparency norms prescribed under the Motor Vehicles Rules. Similarly, unauthorised sirens and multi-toned horns contribute to noise pollution, inconvenience other road users and are often misused to secure undue road priority.

Motorists have been advised not to use black films beyond permissible limits and to avoid fitting private vehicles with unauthorised sirens, pressure horns or multi-toned horns. Police said such enforcement drives would continue as part of efforts to improve road safety, ensure compliance with traffic regulations and promote disciplined driving behaviour.
