1. CM Vijay launches ‘Singappen Special Force’

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated ‘Singappen Special Force,’ a unit of the State police to provide enhanced safety to women, during an event held in Chennai this (June 9, 2026) evening.

The Chief Minister also flagged off special patrol vehicles for the special force, and he drove a vehicle for a short distance.

In his address, Vijay said that for the first time in the country, drone-based ‘patrol’ will be undertaken by the special unit for women’s safety .Asserting that there will be zero tolerance for crimes against women, he assured swift action and tough punishment.

2. Speaker drops action against 21 AIADMK MLAs 

Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar announced that, following the receipt of four separate letters from AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, condoning the conduct of 21 of the 25 rebel MLAs who voted contrary to the direction issued by the party whip during the vote of confidence for the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led government on May 13, he had dropped further action against them.

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat in Chennai, Mr. Prabhakar said proceedings had been initiated against four rebel legislators — Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam), S. Jayakumar (Perundurai), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), and Esaki Subaya (Ambasamudram) — who resigned and joined the TVK, and that a decision would be taken later.

3. Anbumani urges CM for caste-based survey announcement in Governor’s address

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss met Chief Minister Mr. Vijay at the Secretariat in Chennai, urging the State government to announce a caste-based survey during the Governor’s address to the Assembly on June 18.

4. Power cuts leave Chennai residents fuming

Widespread power outages across several parts of Chennai from last night until this morning triggered public outrage, with residents staging protests outside Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) offices and engaging in heated arguments with officials over the prolonged disruption and alleged delay in restoring power supply.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy Resources R. Nirmalkumar, who addressed journalists after attending an event in Chennai, alleged that some individuals were instigating residents in various parts of the city to stage protests against power cuts, even though supply had been restored in those areas.
