Workers employed under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) from Kulathur village submitted a petition at the weekly grievance redress meeting held on Monday, alleging that worksite incharge was providing employment only to preferred individuals while denying work opportunity to others.
The petition was submitted at the meeting chaired by Thoothukudi District Collector Vishu Mahajan.
In the petition, the villagers alleged that the worksite incharge had been ill-treating the workers and was providing work only to her preferred individuals. It further stated that the worksite incharge was allegedly collecting cash from the workers, and that when objections were raised, they were allegedly told that employment would be provided only in exchange for payment.
They urged the authorities to take appropriate action to ensure fair employment opportunities for all.
In another petition, DYFI office-bearers stated that all 9,600 candidates who had qualified in the TNEB filed assistant examination conducted through TNPSC should be appointed. They also demanded that 33% reservation be provided for women in these appointments. They also urged the government to fill the 36,000 vacant posts in the electricity board.
