Garbage piling up on streets, pothole-ridden roads and electricity-related issues were among the most common complaints raised by Bengalureans on the Sahaaya portal, with more than 7.81 lakh grievances being registered between January 2023 and June 13, 2026. 

Data from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), which manages the portal, shows that while a majority of complaints were attended to, issues related to garbage collection, road maintenance and fallen trees or branches continue to generate the highest number of pending and reopened complaints.

In the West Corporation’s Zone 1, more than 1.27 lakh complaints were received during the period. Of these, 7,228 complaints were still pending, while 796 complaints were reopened by citizens after they were dissatisfied with the action taken. Garbage-related complaints topped the list at 30,947, followed by road maintenance complaints at 10,682.

The North City Corporation recorded the lowest number of pending complaints. Of the 1,72,256 complaints received across its two zones, only 3,128 remained unresolved.

Officials told The Hindu that the recently introduced phone-in programmes had helped improve grievance redressal, as residents could directly speak to commissioners and raise issues, which were then reviewed in subsequent sessions. 

However, officials said pending complaints continue to accumulate in departments that depend on coordination with other civic agencies. They pointed to waste management issues involving the Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) and electricity-related grievances involving Bescom as examples. In the case of road-related complaints, the officials attributed delays to staff shortages and irregular execution of works, which have contributed to unresolved grievances and repeated complaints.
