S.N. Narain assumed charge as the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Southern Railway on Wednesday in Chennai.
Prior to this assignment, he was serving as the Private Secretary to Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi on deputation.
An officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) from the 2010 batch, Mr. Narain has held several important assignments in the Indian Railways relating to passenger amenities, operational efficiency, digital communication and public interface. He served in various capacities in the Operations and Commercial wings across different Divisions of Southern Railway. Later, he proceeded on deputation to New Delhi working as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology and as Private Secretary to Mr. Gopi.
During his tenure in Southern Railway, he has held the posts of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Tiruchchirappalli Division, Deputy Chief Operations Manager (Traffic Safety), Southern Railway, Divisional Commercial Manager at Chennai and Palakkad Divisions and Divisional Operations Manager at Salem Division, among others. He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. Mr. Narain succeeds M. Senthamil Selvan, who has now been posted as Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Royapuram Loco Shed.
