When V.D. Satheesan presents his government’s Revised Budget for the 2026-27 fiscal in the State Assembly on Friday (June 19, 2026), he will become the third Congress Chief Minister in Kerala to do so.
Mr. Satheesan will present the Budget since he also handles the Finance portfolio.

R. Shankar was the first Chief Minister of the party to present the State Budget. He presented the Budgets for 1963-64 and 1964-65 after taking over as the first Congress Chief Minister of the State following the resignation of Pattom A. Thanu Pillai.
Oommen Chandy, then Chief Minister, presented the 2016-17 Budget following the resignation of K.M. Mani who was holding Finance portfolio.
Both Mr. Shankar and Mr. Chandy had previously held the finance portfolios before becoming Chief Ministers later in their careers.
Mr. Satheesan will also have the distinction of being the second MLA representing the Paravur constituency to present the Budget. K.T. George, who handled the Finance and Law portfolios in the C. Achutha Menon Ministry, was the first MLA from Paravur to present it.
C. Achutha Menon, who was Finance Minister in the first E.M.S. Namboodiripad Ministry in Kerala, presented the State’s first Budget on June 7, 1957. When Mr. Satheesan presents his budget in another June, it will be the 79th Budget of the State.
