The residents of Pariyathukavu in Malayidomthuruth in Ernakulam will not be left homeless, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said.
Speaking to media persons after a Cabinet meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday (May 25, 2026), Mr. Satheesan said that if indeed the court order pertaining to the evictions had to be implemented, the government would ensure the rehabilitation of the eight families with land and houses.
Mr. Satheesan also slammed the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government for inaction in resolving the issue during its tenure. The recent visit by the Advocate Commission to Pariyathukavu was the 15th attempt to implement the court order. Fourteen such attempts were made during the LDF government’s term and the latter did not move a finger to settle the dispute, he said. Mr. Satheesan said he was also shocked to see two individuals who were Ministers in the LDF government at the scene of the agitation.
“Ours is not the irresponsible approach taken by the LDF government. Over the past two or three days, the UDF government has held discussions with both sides as well as the Advocate General regarding the legal aspects,” he said.
