In a major move to decongest one of the city’s busiest commercial stretches, the Tiruchi Corporation has cleared roadside vendors and shops operating for decades along NSB Road and relocated them to alternative sites.

The action follows an order of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, which declared areas surrounding the Rockfort Teppakulam as no-vending zones. The directive prohibits street vending and other commercial activities in the vicinity to address persistent traffic congestion caused by encroachments. Acting on this, the Town Vending Committee unanimously resolved to designate NSB Road as a no-vending zone and identify alternative locations for traders.
