Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department, S. Suresh Kumar, on Friday conducted a review meeting on the status of development works being undertaken under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) limits.
He said special action plans should be prepared after a detailed examination of the proposals related to various development projects being taken up by the GVMC, including Madhurawada Sewage Treatment Plant(STP), automation of bulk and semi-bulk water supply, desalination plant, bulk water supply pipelines, Integrated Traffic Management System, Integrated Sports City and other infrastructure works.
At the review meeting, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg explained the details of the ongoing development works and proposals through a presentation.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suresh Kumar directed the officials to prepare proposals for the construction of STPs at Bheemili and Anakapalli. He also asked them to study the processes being adopted in other countries for implementing desalination projects.
He emphasised that among the basic civic amenities being provided to the public, special attention should be given to drinking water supply, sanitation and maintenance of streetlights, as these were the sectors from which the highest number of public complaints were being received.
He also stressed the need for officials to conduct regular morning inspections in wards and interact with residents.
