A low-pressure is likely to form over southwest Bay of Bengal under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Sri Lanka, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD, in a release on Sunday (May 10), said there is also a trough in middle and upper level westerlies, with its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level, which now runs from northeast Bihar to central parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh across Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

The two systems may bring a change in the weather in the State in the coming days, as light showers, thunderstorms, lightning are predicted over coastal A.P. and Rayalaseema in the next week. Gusty winds, with speed reaching 40-50 kmph are also likely over these two regions.

A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Prakhar Jain has issued a caution asking people to avoid staying in open areas and to take shelter in safe buildings as there may be widespread thunderstorms in the State until Thursday (May 14). Farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions during agricultural activities.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the day’s maximum temperature of 42°C was recorded in Kopperapadu of Prakasam district, followed by Gurazala in Palnadu district at 41.6°C, Nagaradone in Kurnool district recorded 41.3°C, Allagadda in Nandyal district recorded 41.1°C.

According to the APSDMA, light showers, thunderstorms and lightning are likely in isolated places in the districts of Parvathipuram-Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Anakapalli, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Nellore, Chittoor, and Tirupati on Monday.
