The Delhi Congress on Saturday protested outside filling stations and Mother Dairy outlets against the steep hikes in fuel and milk prices, criticising the Centre for its “anti-poor and pro-rich” policies. Oil marketing companies on Friday increased petrol and diesel prices by ₹3 across all variants while CNG prices in cities such as Delhi and Mumbai were raised by ₹2 per kg amid pressure on fuel supplies due to the conflict in West Asia. Amul and Mother Dairy, India’s largest dairy product retailers, had on Wednesday raised milk prices by ₹2 per litre. Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav arrived at a petrol pump in Karol Bagh on a bullock cart and demanded an immediate rollback of the price hikes. “Before the BJP came to power at the Centre, it used to say the Congress government did nothing in 60 years. But in the last 12 years, inflation has continuously risen because of the BJP government’s anti-poor and pro-rich policies,” he said. Mr. Yadav said the NDA government had come to power promising to curb inflation, but prices have instead continued to soar and are tormenting people. He claimed that the government had earned ₹43 lakh crore from petroleum products between 2014 and 2025. “Barring a few months in 2026, the average global crude oil price between 2014 and 2025 was $70 per barrel. According to this, the price of petrol should have been ₹61.60 per litre and diesel ₹56.99 per litre,” he said. Questioning the timing of the hike, Mr. Yadav said the Central government increased the prices of essential commodities soon after the Assembly elections. “As soon as the elections ended, the BJP-led government delivered a severe shock to common people by increasing the prices of petrol, diesel and milk,” he said.
