A 28-year-old man allegedly ended his life by slitting his throat, in the Ashok Nagar Police Station limits on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Gautam, a resident of Wilson Garden. The police said passers-by noticed his body lying in an empty graveyard site and alerted the authorities. Owing to the nature of the injuries, the incident was initially suspected to be a case of murder.
The police teams rushed to the spot and carried out a preliminary investigation and analysed CCTV camera footage. During the course of inquiry, the officials found evidence indicating that Gautam had allegedly taken the extreme step himself.
The investigators learnt that the deceased was reportedly mentally disturbed and had recently escaped from a rehabilitation centre. The police said his mother had left him, while his father passed away few years ago. They said that Gautam is believed to have died on Thursday night, but the incident came to light on Friday morning.
The body was shifted for post-mortem examination. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, the police said. The police have registered a case of unnatural death, and further investigation is under way.
