Dismissing the BRS claims on paddy procurement, the Congress hit back stating that their government procured more and paid more to the farmers compared to the BRS regime.
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said that between 2021 and 2023, the BRS government paid ₹23,599.36 crore to farmers, whereas the Congress government had disbursed ₹27,747.75 crore within just two years. He added that nearly ₹6,500 crore had already been credited to farmers’ accounts this year alone.
Similarly, the Congress government had expanded procurement infrastructure significantly by setting up 7,178 centres in 2023-24, 8,378 centres in 2024-25 and 8,575 centres in the ongoing 2025-26 season. “These figures are all in the public domain. Do BRS leaders think people are unaware of them?” he questioned in response to the BRS criticism.
Criticising BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy’s criticism that this was not the original Congress, he said that the people of Telangana had ‘rejected’ BRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao and sent him back to his farmhouse.
He also questioned the political background of several BRS leaders, including Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Malla Reddy, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and others.
The Congress MP asserted that Telangana statehood would not have been possible without the Congress and accused Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao of betraying the people of Telangana. He also said Mr. Jagadish Reddy had no moral right to speak against the Congress, which has a history spanning over a century.
