The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday accused the Congress government in Karnataka of pushing the State into a financial crisis, alleging that employees of the Karnataka Janapada University had not been paid salaries for the past 11 months.
In a statement, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok said the situation reflected the “administrative failure” of the State government and alleged that excessive expenditure on the government’s guarantee schemes had affected funding for education, development works and public institutions.
He claimed that several government departments and development projects were facing financial strain due to shortage of funds, and alleged that universities were now struggling to pay salaries to employees.
“The Congress government is spending crores of rupees on advertisements for guarantee schemes, but does not have money to pay salaries to employees,” the statement said.
He alleged that the State’s financial priorities had adversely affected public institutions and the future of employees working in them.
