As the Fast Track Special Court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act assembles at the Puducherry District Court on Thursday to deliver the verdict in the rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl child two years ago, the prosecution and counsel representing the victim’s family are set to plead before Special Judge M. D. Sumathi to consider the case as “rarest of the rare,” for providing maximum punishment to the accused.
After conclusion of the final arguments on April 15, the Judge had posted the case to April 30 for delivering the judgement. When the court assembles to give the verdict, Special Public Prosecutor S. Patcheappan and Assisting Prosecutor for the victim’s family T. Pravin will make the mandatory sentencing argument to ensure that the accused gets maximum punishment considering heinous gang rape of the child in the Union Territory.
