The CPI Kollam District Council meeting witnessed a stormy session as a senior leader launched a scathing attack on the party’s State leadership. Expressing deep dissatisfaction with the current organisational structure, the leader questioned the very purpose of the State Secretariat, a body formed during the last party congress. He pointed out that any corrective measures within the party should not begin at the grassroots level but must start from the top leadership.

The senior leader, who has reportedly been at odds with the State leadership for some time, suggested that it might be better for the party unit in the district to merge with the CPI(M), a comment that was met with notable silence from other members in attendance. The outbursts occurred during a leadership meeting originally convened to discuss membership and other administrative matters, notably excluding election analysis from the primary agenda. The leader criticised the State leadership for its failure to take responsibility for the heavy losses suffered in several constituencies across Kollam during the Assembly elections. He argued that the blame for such defeats is often unfairly shifted onto local committees instead of the higher echelons of the party.

Expressing grave concern over the current trajectory of the party as it approaches its centenary, he slammed the leadership for adopting stances that he claimed were inconsistent with established party protocols. The heated discussions took place in the presence of prominent leaders including Mullakkara Ratnakaran, J. Chinchurani, and P.S. Supal. In response to the concerns raised, the party has decided to conduct constituency-level review meetings involving State leaders to analyse the election debacle in detail. Furthermore, the district executive and council are scheduled to meet again on June 3 and 4, where State Secretary Binoy Viswam will be present to oversee a comprehensive evaluation of the election results and the internal grievances raised.
