Making it clear that there is no official government scheme called ‘Gruha Lakshmi Loan Scheme’, the Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has cautioned the public against falling victim to fraud.

In a press statement here, chairperson of the Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee of MCC Pushpavalli, who is also a former Deputy Mayor, said that it has come to the committee’s notice that there were claims on social media that loans ranging from ₹30,000 to ₹3 lakh were available under a ‘Gruha Lakshmi Loan Scheme’. Many people had been calling the committee chairperson and the members seeking information regarding the matter.

As the government had not announced any official scheme called ‘Gruha Lakshmi Loan Scheme’, Ms. Pushpavalli cautioned the public not to fall victim to any fraud. “This is false information, and no official announcement has been made by the government regarding such a scheme,” she said in a statement.

She has also advised citizens not to install any unfamiliar APK file links and not to share OTPs, bank account details, and personal information with anyone. 

Cautioning the public against making any payments based on the claims made through social media platforms, Ms. Pushpavalli said the public should trust only information that is issued through an official Government Order or published in an authorised government statement or newspaper announcement. “Do not pay money to anyone and become victims of fraud,” she cautioned.

No forcible deduction

Ms. Pushpavalli also said that a recent meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary and the Development Commissioner had discussed the issue of the alleged deduction of Gruha Lakshmi assistance amounts from beneficiaries’ bank accounts towards old loan dues or interest liabilities.

The meeting decided to ask the State Level Bankers’ Committee to direct banks not to forcibly deduct the Gruha Lakshmi assistance amount from the accounts of the beneficiaries to adjust the pending dues.

Accordingly, instructions have been issued to ensure that the financial assistance being paid to beneficiaries under the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme is not forcibly deducted from their bank accounts on the pretext of recovering old loan arrears or interest. 

All private banks, finance companies, and microfinance institutions operating within the district have been advised to comply with these directions, she said.
