Burglars decamped with ₹1.5 lakh in cash after breaking the glass panels of an SUV belonging to a former AIADMK MLA at Katpadi in Vellore on Sunday.
Police said that the vehicle belonged to N.G. Parthiban, former AIADMK MLA for Sholingur Assembly constituency. He won the 2016 Legislative Assembly election from the constituency for the party.
Initial inquiry revealed that Parthiban went to attend a party functionary’s family function at Vadukankuttai village near Katpadi in Vellore in his SUV. After parking the vehicle, Parthiban and his car driver, B. Kumaresan, 33, went to attend the function, which was held at a community hall in the village.
Police said that after the event had ended, driver Kumaresan came to take the vehicle when he noticed glass panels on the rear side of the SUV were damaged, and cash had been stolen. Kumaresan informed Parthiban, who alerted the Katpadi police immediately. A police team rushed to the spot and a case was registered.
Police said CCTV footage on the route showed that four unidentified persons on two motorcycles had followed the SUV from Ranipet to the community hall. Special teams have been formed to nab the suspects. Further probe is under way.
